We’re such saps for maple season! Did you know that in Canada, we actually have a maple syrup reserve? It can hold 55 million pounds of maple syrup (or about 94,000 barrels at 205 litres apiece)! Due to the shortage of this liquid gold this past December, we actually had to tap into our stockpile to help the rest of the world out! With that in mind, we figured we’d show our Farm Boy fam how to best incorporate that sweet stuff beyond your standard pancakes and waffles (although we love those, too!).
Fruity Maple Yogurt & Cereal Parfaits
A breakfast choice for when you prefer something a little sweeter to start your mornings! Layers of yogurt, fruit, and cereal make this snackable parfait. While we love fresh juicy raspberries and blueberries to begin the day, you can switch it up with whatever fruit you fancy. A drizzle of maple syrup takes things up a notch. Looking to take it on the go? Try building it in a mason jar for portability!
Maple Peameal Bacon Breakfast Sandwich
Perhaps savoury is more your style? In that case, how about skipping the drive-thru and opting for a homemade breakfast sandwich in the a.m.? With cheese, eggs, tomato, lettuce, Farm Boy™ Peameal Style Bacon, and a touch of sweetness from our Amber Maple Syrup, it’s a sammie that’ll keep you full until lunchtime!
Sweet & Spicy Togarashi Salmon
A quick marinade is all it takes to elevate a simple salmon dish from “okay” to “oh, wow”! The blend of maple syrup and our togarashi seasoning makes for a balanced flavour profile, while the added crunch of sesame seeds and nori hits all the textural highs. A great weeknight dinner option, it’ll fool even the most discerning of palates into thinking it was an hours-long endeavour.
Maple Pouding Chômeur
Fun fact: pouding chômeur was actually created by female factory workers during the Great Depression in Québec when ingredients were scarce. Now, of course, it’s become a staple of Québécois cuisine and really hits its stride during maple season – which is right now! This self-saucing dessert uses our pantry staple of Premium Buttermilk Pancake Mix, which makes it easy for beginner bakers. Try it with a scoop of ice cream on top when they’re fresh out of the oven.
Creamy Maple Rice Pudding
Creamy, dreamy rice pudding is a classic comfort dessert. We like ours with maple syrup, thank you very much! This version doesn’t require the oven and instead comes together on the stove. Made with simple ingredients, it’s a dish you can feel good about indulging in, thanks to high levels of vitamins and protein. Rice pudding as a health food? Sign us up!
